Weird; this place has turned me into a birder. The other day I discovered I could watch a whole parade of birds fatten up at the bird feeder, while sitting at the kitchen table. The next day I bought a field guide and have been able to identify every one, but the Ruby-Crested Kinglet, for which I needed help from a birding MLA I know.
Today, in order of the marked pages of the field guide, I spotted:
Hairy Pecker, I mean Woodpecker!
Chestnut-Backed Chickadee
Ruby Crowned Kinglet
Spotted Towhee
Oregon Junco
House Finch
Pine Siskin
House Sparrow
And a Barred Owl!
On the gardening front, I laid down some cardboard as the first layer of the sheet mulching project. One row. Many more to go!
