Getting there

Its been a busy past few months, what with the moving and the new job. Work on the farm though has progressed pretty nicely. It's not as extensive as I would like it, but for now, I better let it go...or not. My biggest fear was that an election would be called this spring and that I would have to spend an entire month away from the operation. Now I know there won't be an election, so maybe I can expand?

Right now I have 10 2x25 foot beds ready and about 80 tomato plants started. Those 80 plants are made up of 13 different varieties of cherry tomatoes. I will sell that as assorted baskets of 1/2 or 1 pound each. There will be 10 plants per bed, using 8 of the beds. The other two I think I will try potatoes on...I am worried about wireworms though. If I were to spend another $100 on manure I could put in 10 more beds for salad greens, but I am reluctant...greens are a lot of work! Maybe I'll just see how the tomatoes go and save the greens for next year...just in case there is provincial election this fall and I find myself out of work. Well, paycheque kind of work anyway. Becoming unemployed would be a dream! Full time farmer then!
